Beta Bulletin - 02.15.2009
Dear Fraters,
As we begin a new semester, the men of the Beta chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon look forward to having a successful and productive year. This semester is especially exciting for us at Beta chapter as we have a number of seniors preparing to graduate. Our graduating seniors are Fraters Alex Krows (Communications), Ryan Burns (Sports Management), Casey Baugher (Political Science/Theater), Adam Vloedman (Accounting), Jon Leganski (Music Business), Elias Trace (Commercial Music), Tom Heuer (Computer Science) and Justin DeYoung (Chemistry with a business emphasis). As these men prepare to leave college and enter the workforce, any help that our alumni could give them would be greatly appreciated.
As always philanthropy is high on list of priorities and we just held our first blood drive of the semester where we were able to raise 32 units of blood. We also are looking forward to contributing to our new national organization Saint Jude’s children hospital and are planning to have an exchange with our local Delta Delta Delta chapter in order to raise money.
Some of our recent house improvements have included redoing our projector room, and putting in stadium seating. This house improvement has been a huge success and we recently held our Superbowl party of their and had over 70 people over to enjoy the game.
We have also recently done some major improvements on the outside of our house by replacing our door with a new frame and replacing the windows with a solid wood frame. We also have repainted numerous rooms in the house and we are making it a goal of ours to put down a new coat of paint in every room.
The most exciting thing that has occurred this semester was the addition of 10 new pledges to our house. We are looking forward to having a successful pledge ship and are counting on our Hegemon (Alex Krows) to educate our new members and turn them into productive and successful actives. We are also excited to announce that we have recently announced our big brothers, and all but one, are serving as a big brother for the first time.
As you all know our hundred year celebration is coming up on April 17th and I’m proud to say that we have a great celebration planned for all those that are able to attend. On Friday night we are having a very well known band, Tripping Billies, coming down from Chicago to come and play for us. On Saturday we have a dinner planned at the Decatur club. Part of the dinner will include a cocktail hour as well as speeches including one by the grand Prytanis and a short slideshow covering our hundred year history.
On Sunday we will have an all day open house for any alumni who either weren’t able to come to the other events, or who wish for a more private tour. More information with a full run down of all of the events should be arriving at your houses in a week or two. For anyone not receiving a letter or if you wish more information please contact Frater Ethan Buege.
We are looking forward to a great semester and a great hundred year anniversary and with the continued support of our alumni we can only get better as a chapter. As always we ask for any donations that alumni may be willing to give. Please contact Ethan Buege for more information about donations, or any other way in which you can help our chapter.
As always our house welcomes and encourages all alumni to come by for a visit and we look forward to seeing many of you at our hundred year anniversary. We thank you for all of the help that you have given us over the years both as actives and now as alumni. You have laid the groundwork for us to reach this momentous occasion and we thank you for that. As always we wish you a safe and happy year.
Yours in the Bond,
The Members of the Beta Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon
